The temperature in Arles was nudging 35C as hundreds of photographers, curators and journalists from around the world trooped into Arles for the annual photography festival Rencontres d'Arles in this Provençal city. Martin Parr, godfather of contemporary British photography, was diligently doing the rounds. His verdict: "Well, I've been entertained, surprised, excited and bored. You can't ask for more than that, can you?"
